why we are here
NorthwestTekno (and it's genesis the printed "Scene Not Herd" zine) grew out of frustration with techno-culture. I want innovation and creativity to be the norm rather than the exception and for talented local artists to be recognized. Both SNH and NWT have been nonprofit ventures I strongly disapprove of the commodification of this culture and those who seek to exploit it. I want to help people understand why we are so passionate about this community and its music. I want to inspire people to get involved and do something proactive, to collaborate with each other on projects and ideas, to put some real energy into improving what we have.
Please keep this in mind when posting and try to make your posts informative. If you want to chat casually, the chatroom is pretty busy and is a great place to relax and ramble about whatever's on your mind. Also, each user's profile has information on how to contact them for a chat off the board.

where we came from
NorthwestTekno was founded by Kimberley Dietemann (aka "groovinkim") in May 1999 and was originally intended only to provide classified ads for the print zine "Scene Not Herd." Kimberley got busy with college though, and the zine fell by the wayside. In the meantime, NWTekno started growing unexpectedly into a popular site of its own accord. As it grew in popularity, more forums were suggested by the users and then added.
The board originally lived on the Hyperreal site, but due to bandwidth and space issues created by the site's growth, it was moved to PulpFiction, where it was paid for by Ken and Larry Tomkins of Raver Books, Kim's employer at the time.
Growth struck again in October 2000, and cost issues meant another move. Dreamhost and the Newdream Network offered to donate the server space, bandwidth, and the NWTekno.org domain name. It was at this time that Josh Santangelo (aka "endquote") became an administrator to help with the technical aspects of launching the new site and keeping it running. The software and look of the site was upgraded, and the site continued to grow.
The current site launched in July 2001 with a new look and a more feature-packed backend. The hope is that this new site will continue to accomodate the growth of the NWTekno community as well as that of electronic music community in the Northwest.
